STATEMENT
My mom was a devout fan of science fiction like Heinlein and Start Trek, and my dad was an electrical engineer in the 1960s, which meant he worked with NASA and the US AirForce for projects. My dad’s family also has a well documented and interesting history. These things influenced my lego use, which involved creating worlds where characters did and built things. I designed in order to tell stories, and I’m sure my efforts to build worlds of lego were a way to understand the world around me, and to dream its future.
Set designers create these worlds: It’s the best thing ever. Each journey into the world of a play is another chance to understand the world around me, and to dream – together with a team of collaborators- what it might become.
Click on the images below for more about each topic. A few favorite projects are followed by links to different kinds of designs, such as box sets, environments, designs with multiple sets, and designs for Opera and new plays. If you want to see designs framed in a proscenium, there is a gallery of some here. All of the links here are duplicated in the galleries.
